NYT on editing
Today's New York Times has a nice piece about the collaboration between author and editor, the way it should be done: What We Talk About When We Talk About Editing. The major point:

Every change is a suggestion, not a demand. If a solution offered by an editor doesn't work for a writer, the two work together to find an answer to the problem. Editing is not bullying.
