Lunchtime Serenity
One of the things I miss most about working at home is being able to take a breather in the middle of the day when I need it. Even at my last "real" job, I lived close enough — across the street, in fact — that I could go home at lunchtime for a smoothie and a nap and come back to work ready to face the afternoon. After a long, long, long but pretty damn good evening at the Fulton last night (I can't remember the last time we actually closed the place down) I really needed a nap today. It was either that or pitch face-first onto my desk at some point in the afternoon.

My place of employment is on the other end of the city from where I live, and I've been exploring the area around there slowly. I usually pack a lunch and either head to a park to eat it there or eat it in the car on my way to wherever. Today in my wanderings I returned to a neighborhood park I had passed by back when the weather was less pleasant. It's a nameless hilly expanse with some decent-sized trees that provide circles of shade just right for stretching out a blanket underneath. I flipped through the newspaper while I ate my lunch, then stretched out for a much needed rest. Heaven.
