I don't necessarily buy into conspiracy theories, although I have been working with computers long enough to know that glitchy stuff happens all the time. I think it is just baseline common sense to generate a paper trail when employing electronic voting systems, by providing a paper receipt to the voter and generating a paper ballot to be put in a box just in case, for example, lightning strikes the polling place and wipes out the computers storing the votes.
Whatever your political leanings, I hope you'll sign Democracy for America's petition asking Congress to require electronic voting systems to provide paper receipts. Use the comments area of the petition to mention that it is simply common sense to do so. (Thanks, Tim, for the link.)
