New obsession: jewelry!

I tried for several years to get into the jewelry-making class at the Honolulu Academy of Arts, but the class was always full with returnees. Then I found a perfect ceramics situation, and the urge to play with metal was put aside. Now that I've relocated and haven't found a decent ceramics studio setup, the urge has struck again. The CIA classes are tempting but incredibly expensive; the LCCC class is on Tuesday nights, the one night I can't commit to on a regular basis.

One of my mom's clients suggested that I check out Bead Paradise in Oberlin, as they have a lot of different classes. I took a basic beading course there a couple of weeks ago, and a talisman bracelet workshop by Susan Lenart Kazmer this past weekend. I had a great time learning to do some basic things with metal sheets and wire. While it was not exactly what I thought I was looking for, it was exactly what I needed. Susan has great energy and was really an inspiration. I went home from the workshop and sat up until 1:30 in the morning working on the above. I've been working on copper, because it's cheap and easy to learn with, but I have some sterling silver to play with, too.

Mom, too has been playing with artsy stuff. She started a watercolor class this winter, and this was the third thing she finished. Amazing, yes?
