Hau`oli makahiki hou, everyone!

The craziness of the holidays on top of a very busy work season left me little time to play here, but things seem to be lightening up a bit. Perhaps I'll get the redesign finished soon. It was great to spend the holidays with family again, although I did miss my traditional Christmas-morning-at-Queen's-beach bake-a-thon. Sadly, I am regaining my pasty Midwestern girl winter pallor and have just about lost the tan lines (although there are still a few).

I attended a swanky New Year's Eve shindig downtown, for which I had to do the girly thing and shop for a sparkly dress and new shoes. A few friends laughed at my excitement over this, but they don't realize that I'm just not a recreational shopper, and that it was an adventure for me. The party was at a restaurant famous for the expense of its dinners and the gravity of its patrons. Our group was certainly the youngest there by more than a few years, thus the promised dancing upstairs was lame. That and the well-intentioned but slow service that made us miss the stoke of midnight while we tried to settle our bill tarnished the evening a bit, but overall it was a good time. We celebrated the birthday of our host, Larry, and my own birthday as well.

For some reason, I just love this picture. (And that's cigar smoke, not gray hair.)

I look forward to 2003.
