Ah, snow. I had forgotten how pretty new-fallen snow is, especially when it falls quickly and piles up inches deep on every tree branch and mailbox in sight. Of course, I had also forgotten to purchase a snow brush (no, no denial here at all, no sir), so had to go borrow my mom's before heading out to the big ol' Cleveland OSU Alumni Club Football Appreciation Banquet on Tuesday. Good thing, too, because when I left the party, my poor little car was buried under four inches of the stuff. I regret not having brought my camera to document the silly sight of all that snow on the hood of my car above my Hawaii license plate. (Have to take care of that license plate technicality one of these days, I suppose. Again, no denial here.)

I enjoyed the banquet, even though I ended up going alone. I met some fun people, the food was decent, and I got a moment to speak to Coach Tressel (a fellow Berean) afterward, as well as shake Mike Doss's hand. All of the TV stations covered it on the 6 and 11 o'clock news programs.

My sister had surgery this week -- all is fine now -- so I've had charge of the chilluns on and off over the past few days, tag-teaming with Mom and Marty. They're great kids. We had fun watching Wallace and Gromit movies (over and over and over again), playing cards and board games, reading books, having lunch at "Down on the Farm" (Bob Evans) as a special treat, and making and decorating gingerbread cookies. I really don't know how parents do it -- kids are absolutely exhausting, no matter how fantastically well-behaved they are. I can't imagine having to deal with a hellion.

Today being Turkey Day, the family (less my recovering sister) are off to Aunt D's for turkey and the like. I momentarily need to leave my chair and start on my pecan pie and cranberry relish. I love Thanksgiving, and hate how it gets overshadowed earlier and earlier each year by the madness that Christmas has become. When I went to the mall two weeks ago to buy turtlenecks, they were already playing Christmas carols incessantly in the stores. Ugh. I'm looking forward to a nice, low-key Christmas this year.
