Hauoli makahiki hou!
I spent a great Christmas week with Cousins Kim & Kurt in Las Vegas. We gambled a bit (I’m, uh, not even with where I started), saw the Cirque du Soleil Mystere show, visited Red Rock Canyon and the Valley of Fire, toured Hoover Dam, and just hung out and had a good time. Photographic evidence is currently at the developer, as I didn't take the digital camera with me.
I had never had a desire to see Las Vegas, really, but I'm now glad that I did. You know how some places are just embarrassingly tacky? Vegas was so far beyond that, into the realm of having to laugh at it because it's just so over the top. I can see visiting there again, but I couldn't live there. Not nearly enough green things.
The 31st, being my birthday, was a lot of fun. I hosted the usual crowd of a dozen or so for drinks and nibbles and good conversation. Andy brought a bag o' fireworks, which we dispatched way before midnight. Pyros. I ordered a chocolate pyramid cake from JJ French Pastry, and we had a wonderful fuzzy navel cake from Nai as well. Although I had firmly stipulated no gifts, my devious friends blindsided me with an overly generous gift certificate to my personal shopping paradise, Williams-Sonoma -- although they tell me they expect to get some benefit out of it as well. Photographic evidence of the evening is here.
