Today it hit me how far behind I am in my Christmas shopping. I am the kind of person who buys gifts throughout the year and stores them up for Christmas; this year, it just didn’t happen. I have a few things in the prize closet, but not nearly enough to say that I have even a reasonable start on my shopping. So tonight, it’s off to the mall. I have some ideas for most of the rest of my list, but there are a few puzzles.
I’m not much of a clothes shopper. I don’t get that girly glee that others of the species bask in when they pet fuzzy sweaters or try on ridiculous high heels. Then again, give me a sparkly diamond bracelet or a sleek new computer toy or oodles of cool kitchen or home stuff to dream about, and I can be happy. Still, I’m not one to wander the mall aimlessly, looking for something to buy just for the sake of buying something. That gene skipped right by me altogether; my sister got the double-dose of that one, while I got none at all.
However, I’m curious to see the transition of the local Hawaii department store, Liberty House, into Macy’s. Liberty House was sold to Federated Department Stores earlier this year, and all of them were changed to Macy’s this past Friday. I, being shopping-averse, have avoided the post-Thanksgiving mall so far, but feel compelled to check it out. The propaganda surrounding the change has promised larger selection and lower prices. We’ll see.
