Hard drive update: It was hosed. For a zillion dollars and a couple of weeks of my time I could have sent it off somewhere to see if anything was salvagable, but the relatively small amount of work I lost didn't justify the expense or the time. It ends up that the power supply was the problem and thus likely the cause of some of the other problems I've had with that machine. So, new hard drive, new sound card, new power supply, and fast & friendly service from Shawn at Mac at Work, all for a bargain price.
Having reconstructed the logo I lost in the crash, I've been having some fun with
Cafe Press this week. See the nifty shirts & stuff (sales of which benefit the Ohio State Alumni Club of Hawaii scholarship fund). They're suitable for all Ohio State fans, not just those of us in Hawaii. Hell, I suppose they'd even be suitable for Oklahoma fans or Oregon fans or fans of just about any "O" school. The ones without "Buckeyes in Paradise" on the back, anyway. Buy one for your favorite Michigan fan.
The haunted Honolulu tour was a blast! Seven of us (didn't pick that lucky number on purpose, but it seems to have helped protect us) loaded up on chicken enchiladas, black beans, rice, brownies, and margaritas before joining 22 other adventurous souls for five hours of touring haunted sites around town with our fantastic tour guide, Lopaka Kapanui. We visited a middle school built on an old heiau at the foot of Punchbowl, where we learned that all the schools are haunted, one way or another. We visited the Manoa Chinese cemetary and stood on a nightmarcher path and listened to the spirits in the trees. (Don't think I'll ever listen to wind in the trees the same way again.) We came close to Kahala Mall, in and around which faceless ghosts roam, and I learned why I always hated standing at that bus stop by the old cemetery. Off to Sandy beach for some local lore, and on to Makapuu, where hopefully the wisdom of not cheating on your spouse got through to a few people. We ended the night just after midnight at Morgan's Corner, a seriously spooky spot on the old Nuuanu Pali Road. Highly recommended.
