I’m still sick. Not nearly as sick as I was a week ago, but definitely sicker than I was just two days ago. This is Day 19. The sore throat was gone, but now it’s back. Yes, I’m taking all of the antibiotics on the right schedule, just as I’m supposed to. Who knows what’s up. I’m tired of whining about being sick.
Lots of manini stuff happening lately. I’ve been working on the alumni club newsletter and website, and have been meeting with some of the other members. Great people all around -- I’m glad I got involved with this.
I’ve been trying to get the house organized (finally!) by going one shelf/drawer/small area at a time. The office is still a wreck, and it looks like it’s going to stay that way for a while. We’re getting more of the Borders shelves in a couple of days from a friend who is moving away. That’s probably a good thing, since I need to get all the books I have stored at Mom’s place shipped out here. Actually, I need to be very, very ruthless when going through the stuff at Mom’s this summer, and somehow make friends with the UPS guy.
The big premiere of Pearl Harbor was last night, and Ben (the cute movie-star one, not the governor one) forgot to invite me. I have seen no celebrities, although the city is apparently crawling with them.
The fruit trees at the new place are really cool. The one right outside our bedroom window is an avocado; its fruits are about the size of golf balls right now. In front of the neighbors’ half of the house are guava (tried it -- too sour), surinam cherry, and bananas. I just noticed the bananas the other day, since they’ve started to fruit. They are the most unlikely looking things when they’re growing. I must remember to take some pictures of these things. I haven’t done a thing about putting in my kitchen garden. It will have to wait for later this summer.
X-Files (no spoilers, for those who haven’t seen the tape yet): Kinda disappointed with the anticlimactic end to the big chase, but the very last thing made my jaw drop. Now how the hell are they going to write Mulder out of next season altogether with THAT ending? I hope they keep Annabeth Gish around -- I’ve always liked her.
I’m going to be a mad crazywoman for the next couple of weeks. Two big freelance projects have just fallen into my lap, and I’ve accepted them on a rush basis. The timing could be better -- one is a project that has been "ready any day now" for the last two years -- but I’m confident that I can crank through them before going on vacation. I just won’t have time to lounge about idly for a while. I’ll have another big project waiting for me when I return. I sense a Titanium Powerbook in my future, assuming all goes well.
