January sales have forced me to break my determination to go easy on the discretionary spending this month. Title 9, Territory Ahead, Travelsmith, Liberty House -- everyone has stuff that’s just too good to pass up. (Then, of course, there’s a huge sale on PowerBooks over at MacZone, but I refuse to even go look to see how cheap they are lest one show up on my doorstep -- and credit card bill.)
Shopping on line is such a great thing, especially out here in the middle of the ocean. Hawaii doesn’t have much in the way of women’s clothing stores like Express or Limited or Paul Harris or Winkleman’s or all those other places I used to shop on the mainland. Most are high-priced boutiques or teeny-bopper stores with really cheap trendy clothes. We have Gap and Old Navy, but their stuff isn’t cut right for my body. There are some mediocre "outlet" stores out at Waikele, if I feel up to it, but I rarely find anything out there that I like. We don’t have TJ Maxx or Marshalls (Marshalls used to be here but left not long after I arrived), just Ross, which is worse than bad.
If I have to do my shopping in person, anymore I just start at Liberty House or JC Penney and maybe wander over to Sears as a last resort. I dream of the day when I’m wealthy enough to be able to hire a seamstress and a shoemaker to just make whatever it is that I want. My sister definitely inherited all of the shopping genes in our family.
