I put up a bio page that I’m relatively satisfied with. I imagine I’ll add to and subtract from it as time goes on. Next on the agenda are the Hawaii pages.

It looks like I’m probably going to be on my own for Christmas day for the first time ever. Assuming the weather is nice, I’ll probably opt to spend the day at the beach (after opening my gifts and making my phone calls). I’ll take my camera and take many straight-armed self-portraits of myself frolicking in the 80-degree weather to send to all you snowbound people.

I’m not sure what dinner will be yet. Maybe a really good steak. Definitely mashed potatoes, and sweet potatoes too, while we’re at it. This of course means that I have to hit the grocery store sometime soon, preferably before the weekend.

And I realized today that I have to go to the mall again. I hate going to the mall right before Christmas. I usually pay my Discover bill in person at Sears. I end up going to the mall about once a month anyway, it saves me the stamp, and I can wait to pay it until the day it’s due. In December, though, I like to mail it so that I don’t have to deal with late December mall crowds. This year, I forgot, and thus have to trek to the mall. Maybe I’ll just incorporate it into my walk tomorrow so that I can avoid at least the parking part.

The waves on the North Shore are pretty big today and growing. Check out the Sunset Beach surf cam and the Pipeline surf cam.

The biggest waves I’ve ever seen were 30+ feet at Waimea Beach Park when I first visited the Islands in 1994. Monster waves. Crazy waves. We had a similar swell last winter, but I didn’t get to see any of it in person. We did go to Waimea a day or two after the swell peaked, though, and there was sand packed solidly into the drinking fountains near the restrooms and drift debris in the parking lot, the waves were coming up so high.

What we’re seeing today is a little less than half as high, although they’re predicting occasional 20-footers.
