Bernie Kosar has a greeting card company? How weird. I came across that as I was doing research for a project I’m thinking of taking on. If I choose to go ahead with it, you’ll hear more about it here, I’m sure.

So, I braved the mall last evening. I was quite surprised to find Ala Moana rather calm and not horrifically crowded -- the stores themselves had relatively light traffic and very few lines. I returned the sparkly top I bought earlier this month. (I decided that it didn’t go with the skirt I had intended it for nearly as well as I thought it did a couple of weeks ago. Besides, I will have no occasion to wear it anytime soon.) I paid my bill. I shopped for a pair of khakis (didn’t buy any). I tried to make a purchase at T&C Surf, but the three employees standing around by the case in which the item I wanted was located were so engrossed in gabbing with one another that I gave up on catching their attention after a couple of minutes and just left.

I swung by Blockbuster on the way home and rented a copy of Office Space, which someone on one the the discussion boards I frequent had mentioned. The poor video store guy with the broken ankle admitted that he had seen in probably 20 times, and that it got funnier each time. I loved it. I used to have a cube just like Peter’s, and stories to go with it.

I have a letter in Holt Uncensored #206 (as of this afternoon issue #206 wasn’t available at the site yet, but it should be soon). Pat Holt is a vocal critic of chain stores and supporter of independent stores. The chains vs. independents issue is one I’ve done a lot of thinking about. A lot of times I don’t agree with Pat, but I like to keep up with her columns because they make me think about the issue and help me organize my thoughts.

I keep hearing the weather reports from the eastern half of the country, and hope all you travelers (you know who you are) are OK and making progress, or at least holed up in a hotel somewhere with room service hot chocolate. Me, I put an extra blanket on the bed last night when it dipped into the 60s. (Yes, officer, I have a license to smirk at this time of year.) It has been raining off and on, though, so don’t feel too jealous.
