Let me just say that black grout looks wicked cool on the tabletop mosaic, but is terribly messy to work with. Pictures to come as soon as I get the last of the grout haze cleaned off.

I found out that the papaya I had planted is a boy and thus won’t produce fruit, so I took it down on Sunday. I was surprised to see how few and shallow the roots were, considering the size of the tree, and also amazed at how little time it took to cut it down. The trunk was mostly hollow and easily snapped into pieces once I sawed halfway into it.

Except for my herbs, I’m giving up completely on edible plants. Between the bugs and the slugs and the pickiness of the plants themselves, it’s just not worth the effort. Tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, green beans -- I’ve tried all the small, "easy to grow" vegetables that I like, and my garden is just not happy with any of them. At least I have my rosemary and my basil.

The papaya spot got filled in with the iris and ilima I moved from the other side of the garden along with some more of the little yellow daisies I like so much and a couple of little purple flowers I picked up Sunday.
